As a human beings we eat, breathe, and absorb. Unfortunately these days most everything that we eat, breathe, or absorb is toxic. Industry and automobiles pollute the air we breathe. Our food supply is poisoned with pesticides, chemicals, growth hormones, antibiotics, preservatives or harmful bacteria. The cosmetics and self-care products we use have harmful chemicals in them. Ultimately most of these toxins are being filtered by the body in one way or another and find their way into the colon to be eliminated.
Toxins from environmental pollution, undigested food and fecal material can collect for years due to chronic or occasional constipation.
The colon is your "main drain". An unhealthy colon is thought to be the cause of 90% of all diseases.
The normal stool transit time for a physically active person is 12-18 hours. In Western society where our lifestyle has become sedentary, the average transit time is 18-36 hours.
This slower transit time has several consequences:
As matter sits in the colon longer it begins to adhere to the internal walls. As this matter builds up there is less physical space for matter to move through. Thus reducing the efficiency of our detoxification system.
As toxic matter sits in the colon, eventually it gets reabsorbed through the lining of the colon back into the blood stream. Systemic toxicity compromises the body's immune defense, may cause mental confusion, fatigue, and oxidative stress which will hasten the aging process and put undue stress on the body ultimately leaving the body vulnerable to cancers and auto immune conditions.
