Acne - Not just Your Teenage Son's Problem

There are many factors that make up Acne prone skin. Although your teenage son or daughter may be the likely victim of Acne, it can happen to anyone at any age. Acne does not discriminate.
Acne can appear all over the body, however the primary area of concern for most is the appearance of it on their faces. It's the first thing someone sees and it's the first thing they see each morning in the mirror and it can really affect their life in negative ways.

When looking at individuals with plagued with Acne, they will have higher levels of Testosterone, which create a natural skin lubricant, Sebum, in an excessive amount. When this happens the pores are then clogged and either become red and inflamed, or appear as white heads and black heads. This over-production of this oil is what you see in teenagers mostly because as they hit puberty and their hormones suddenly fluctuate their bodies change and the surge of hormones leads to Acne. Now, Testosterone is a male hormone, however females do produce some of this hormone as well. Other causes linked to Acne are stress (who doesn't have that?!), genetics and diet (higher amounts of consumption of sugary and white flour foods, i.e. complex carbs).

The most important thing to always remember that Acne is treatable. Everyone is different and every situation is different.
