HGC Diet


The HGC (human chorionic gonadotropin) diet is a diet that consists of a natural hormone, which develops during pregnancy, being injected into body. This diet gives you a limit of only consuming 500 calories a day for 8 weeks. 500 calories a day means you will not be eating much throughout the day.

Your diet will consist of 2 meals a day, lunch and dinner. Each of these meals must include 1 protein, 1 vegetable, 1 fruit, and 1 grain. You must stay away from fish such as salmon, tuna, eel, herring, and dried or pickled fish. However, you are allowed to either grill or broil chicken breast, beef, white fish, veal, lobster, crab, and shrimp. Furthermore, you must watch out for any visible fats in these meats and make sure to stay away from them. You can choose from a variety of vegetables such as tomatoes, celery, spinach, cabbage, cucumbers etc. There is also a variety of options for fruit such as an apple, orange, etc. For the grain portion of your meal you can eat, for example, one breadstick.

You are allowed to consume as much water, tea, or coffee as you want during this diet Also you can have up to 1 table spoon of milk a day. However you cannot use sugar to sweeten drinks, but sugar substitutes are allowed.

Living off only 500 calories a day can be very uncomfortable. You will not get all of your nutritional needs because if you are receiving less than 1200 calories a day it is hard to earn all the vitamins and minerals your body needs without using supplements.

Anyone can follow the HGC diet. It is harder for vegetarians to follow this diet because of the lack of protein they are not getting from meats. However they can drink extra skim milk to make up for the missing protein. However it is not a vegan diet because of the dairy involved. Also this is not a gluten-free diet.
